The 2025 Southern Checker Tournament will be held on (Friday and Saturday) July 25th & July 26th at The Comfort Suites in Lebanon, TN 37090. The hotel is located on Highway 231 (904 Murfreesboro Road) near I-40 (take exit 238 north off I-40 ramp and make left turn onto US-231 N / S Cumberland St / TN-10 N, back across I-40, hotel on right). Most players will book Thursday, July 24th for $84.95 and Friday, July 25th for $119.95 plus 18.75% tax, so Total Cost for Thursday & Friday = $243.32. For players who want to save on hotel expense, book at Econo Lodge (map) located 829 S. Cumberland Street, 615-444-1001 for Thursday, 24th cost $54.95 and Friday, July 25th for $62.95
+ (18.75% Tennessee Tax per night), so Total Cost for Thursday & Friday = $140.01 and tell them you are a checker player. Please call before midnight July 10, 2025 (2 weeks in advance) for either hotel reservation. There is no guarantee the rates will apply or the rooms will be available after that date. Please make your reservations early, since you may cancel them as late as 4 pm the day before your arrival. The playing room is $178.13 per day. A nice hot breakfast is available at Comfort Suites for all checker players even if you lodge at Econo Lodge. We play in the main conference room on the 1st floor at Comfort Suites. Ms. Tamara Tomlin is our contact person. Our playing conference room cost is a daily fee of $150.00 + 18.75% tax = $178.13. The tournament consists of two (2) divisions. We play 4 rounds Friday and 3 on Saturday. Registration will begin at 8AM on Friday followed by a business meeting at 9AM. Play will start immediately following the business meeting (no later than 9:30AM) and ends on Saturday. This is the 118th Southern! And one of the oldest continuous Checker Tournament in the country... A Southern Tradition! The first Southern States Checker Tournament was played in Atlanta, GA on 9/10 -12, 1908 and won by F. B. "Captain" Fishburne from Columbia, SC. It is held yearly since, and sanctioned by the American Checker Federation. Usually scheduled close to the 4th of July weekend, Friday thru Sunday.
